The STEM TY Challenge offers mentors an experience to coach with the next generation of STEM leaders in a structured and output-focused way. Also, you get the opportunity to connect with local schools. Your STEM expertise will bridge the gap between your mentee group and their final output: a video titled "A Day In STEM". Savvy Teens will provide students with the technical skills development and resources to meet the challenge and rely on your personalised coaching to help us collectively achieve our goals.
The skills development plan is broken into achievable milestones for each group to complete, along with mini activities that can support each person's personal development. Savvy Teens provide guidance for each person and group via self-directed videos and session portals. We expect mentors and students to schedule regular meeting to support each other throughout the experience.
The core events listed above will ensure students meet the programme's demands, achieve their milestones and meet their personal development goals.
Additionally, we will host two events that will bookend the experience for both mentors and students; The Orientation and Showcase event. The Orientation event will provide the opportunity to meet your mentee group and the Showcase event will enable you to present your group's final video to a wider audience.

We designed the programme with ample opportunities for mentors to practice their soft skills development to become more confident leaders, coaches and STEM ambassadors. The amount you gain is dependent on how much work you put in. If you need advise about how to get more involved, you can ask Savvy Teens for guidance.

This program is extremely rewarding to be involved in and I really enjoyed working with such talented transition year students. It gave me first-hand insights into the students’ perspectives about what a career in STEM looks like to them as well as the challenges they believe they will have to overcome to achieve this. As mentors we are able to share our knowledge on what a career in STEM is like and passing on the tips that we’ve picked up along the way to help shape the futures of these students.
STEM South West founded the programme, recruited the help of Savvy Teens to bring their ideas to life, and gained the support of the Life Science Group companies listed below.
